How to Act on the Signs from the Universe
My position has been eliminated again! I’m not sure how many signs from the universe I need before I realize I need to finally GO for my dreams.
If you’ve ever read any of my posts, you know that I want to be a full-time writer. And after reading so many books and listening to podcasts, I’ve decided to OFFICIALLY go for it! Like they say, you have to do it scared.
Are there any signs from the universe you’ve been missing? Or worse, IGNORING?
Today, we’re going to set out to change that. But we can’t go for our dreams if we don’t have a plan. Below is how we’re going to take action.

How to Act on the Signs from the Universe:
1. List out your goals.
Before you can decide that you’re going to act, you need to know what you’re even going for. The best route is to create a list of goals.
I like to do a mind dump for a few minutes. This means I just write down everything I can think of (no matter how outrageous) until I can’t think anymore. This keeps me from overthinking and trying to make sure I write “proper” goals. I also don’t like to look at my list until after the timer I set goes off, so I don’t get distracted.
Try this: Sit down with paper and a pen and set your phone timer for 5 minutes. Just keep writing all the things you want to achieve in your life–these can range from personal, to career, to love, whatever goals you have. Write them all down. Once the timer goes off, then you’ll want to organize the goals you’ve written down.
2. Create a timeline.
Now that you have a list of goals, it’s time to organize them to create a definite timeline for when you need to achieve them. I like to use the SMART method to rewrite my goals before I put them on a timeline. It makes sure they’re specific and measurable.
On another sheet of paper, or in your Google calendar, you need to write out set dates for when you need to complete the items. I like to make a 90 day list, 6 month, and a year. The longer timelines give me an idea of where I want to head, but the shorter, 90-day goals actually force me to be specific and intentional with what I will actually work on COMPLETING. You can down my free 90 Day Goal Sheet if you want to give this a try.
3. Stay consistent.
When you’re looking at the signs of the universe, it can be tempting to think that you need to try all of these different things. But just because a door is opened for you, DOESN’T mean you should walk through it. You need to make sure it’s consistent with your goals.
This has taken me probably too long to start doing. I’ve accepted jobs for the money or stayed with jobs for the same reason. But they’re nowhere near my related field and NOT helping me work towards my overall goal to be a writer. How is that going to benefit me?
You’re right, it’s not.
If you really want to accomplish something then you need to make sure you’re giving it your 100%. This may mean you work freelance or contract instead of getting a full-time job out of college. It may also mean being intentional on where you send your resume instead of sending it out to all the available opportunities in the hopes that just one person will decide to interview you.
You don’t want to prolong your search, overall career satisfaction, and life happiness all for career impatience. So step 3 is the MOST important.
I’m almost embarrassed to admit that this realization has taken me so long to actually accept. The signs from the universe have always been there, but I’ve been trying to make them fit my timeline and idea for how I want to accomplish my goals. And it’s NOT working.
Instead, I’m going to jump, full-force into this. We only get one life and we deserve to live the one we want. This doesn’t mean that everything will be roses and rainbows, but wouldn’t you rather be putting in your blood, sweat, and tears into something that MATTERS and not a 9-5 that doesn’t benefit you? I would.

Nice write up… short and to the point. I cringe at ignoring “the signs” sometimes I adhere them and others I ignore over comfort. Especially when it involves my career. I will you the best!

Thank you! I’m glad you liked it. 🙂 And I know what you mean. Sometimes it’s easier to ignore things we think we should do, because it’s easier to stay in the comfort-zone. I hope you this helps with your career moves!
